Has it really been a week?

I had a very challenging night. I can't count how many times I woke up bathed in sweat and my mouth dry as toast. Pretty horrible let me tell you. So, as of today, NO MORE MORPHINE.
Honestly, my pain is no worse. It's highly tolerable, so Tylenol exclusively will be the friend today.

My favorite pants these days are some nice baggy thermal long johns. They really keep my legs warm. This morning it was time to change them out though. While I was ditching them for nice fleece jammies, Mike and I had a good look at my leg. A lot of the bruising is looking very orangish today. That's a good thing, Means a lot of the muscle blood vessel seepage has stopped.
The odd spots where there is still some heavier bruising is still sore and itching like mad. I believe that itching is a good sign too.

My big issue is still trying to get that knee to straighten out. It burns like mad trying to stretch it out but I MUST keep at it or my leg is going to be deformed.
This afternoon I am going to phone CCAC (home care) on the advice of one of the staff from the knee unit. She said they should be able to send someone out to work a bit with me to get it going. I'm afraid to push that stretch too far without someone in the know coaching me.

I had my second wonderful shower last night and was thankful to get cozy in my nest with my big duvet (which is very light despite being very puffy and warm). Just wish the sleep was going better...

Miss Kitty just doesn't know what to make of my walker. She is sitting here staring it down right now like it is some kind of strange monster. Sometimes she will run, other times she just watches me hobble by.

  1. Keep working at it Karen! It will come, day by day. I could never take narcotics, either, and got through most every surgery on over the counter pain relievers.

    1. I actually figured out a new way to flex that back muscle today and made amazing progress on getting that knee flat! Ice will be my best friend today. Oh, and considering I've only taken ONE tylenol today, it's probably a good idea to take another right about now. So happy to be done with that vile stuff!

  2. A good idea to work your way down off the morphine now. One day at a time.

    1. I was hardly taken any morphine at all (noon and midnight) so I'm not expecting any withdrawl issues. Haven't had one since last night and glad to be rid of it. It has it's place PostOp but sure not the drug for me! I'd never be an addict!!

  3. I'm glad you can get in the shower and keep up that very painful stretching, as I know you will. But it has to be so very hard!

  5. Those drugs are best to get rid of as soon as possible. They cause a lot of issues.
