Autumn preparations

We have had two killing frosts!

Yesterday I picked all of my green tomatoes. This morning every green thing in my garden was done. It is very cold again tonight.

I dumped the dead plants out of pots and tossed them into the compost heap. The pots are cleaned, stacked and tucked away until spring.

M got out the chainsaw and did a lot of trimming yesterday. We just stacked the brush up to dry out. Once the leaves are off he will cut it into short bits and use it for the bonfire.

Typical for September, we are going to warm right up again! I'm not packing away all of my capris and tshirts yet!

The grass needs another cut now that it is growing again.

The furnace is humming away. Hopefully we will have the wood burner hooked up again soon.

I have lots of knitting on the go.

  1. We had a frost overnight. I am not sure if it did damage. I’ll see later. We are managing without the furnace.

    2. The thermometer in the livingroom was only reading 53 when I came down this morning so I popped the furnace on.

  2. I was just saying to hubby this morning that the trees are starting to turn. However, we haven't had frost yet here in Barrie, but it's been nippy cold in a morning. It's on it's way I guess. Like you still wearing capri's and tee's.

    1. I had a couple of days with jeans and a sweatshirt, but tomorrow looks promising for the cooler duds.

  3. Rural living, like you just wrote about, certainly lets the reader slip into the mood of autumn. It makes me want to move to the countryside.

  5. Loved the photos. I've been dealing with the garden too -- and what a mess it is. We had our cold, now back to warm (and temperate), though with some rain. I'll be keeping a mix of clothes for a bit.
