Gloomy Monday, so I knit

The sun was shining briefly when I first left my nest, but yes, was soon gone. The day was very grey all morning, then started to rain again about noon. I'd guarantee that our drought is well over.

About three PM the pup and I walked up the bush trail behind the house. I talked to her nonstop in a very loud voice. Hunting season has opened. I don't know if there are prowlers on the private property up top but we make lots of noise just in case. I got a message that part of our local conservation area has closed for the duration, just in case.

I'm enjoying a quiet evening listening to baking shows and knitting yet another pair of humongous socks. I saw these things in an old edition of Canadian Living. They are heavy, knee high and knit with two strands 0f WOOL. I'm pretty sure I've used this pattern before for M. winter socks. I used a moss green alpaca for his.  This pair is a scarlet red and a burgundy.

We had a wonderful treat for dinner. M came home with two BIG, relatively inexpensive, roasts of a tough cut of beef. He got out the meat grinder attachment for the KitchenAid machine and ground them both up. We are trying to cut our fat consumption so it seemed like a good idea. The ground beef went into ten bags and into the freezer. We kept enough out for a couple of burgers. They tasted like steak. It was very yummy. We opened a jar of my pals fresh zuccini relish for a condiment that really set it all off.

I had a chat with the vet about our cat this afternoon. I wanted to get more insulin ahead before the weather turned nasty. (Our vet is quite a long distance and I'm not keen to be driving that highway in winter weather.) We are going to keep her on a consistent dose now. She is an old cat and as much as we would like to see her off the insulin, I don't think it's going to happen. I'm trying to encourage her to be more active too, but it's a hard slog. If the dog stands beside the couch wagging her tail, Kitty will bat at it. M tried to get her to play with a dragon fly toy, but she wasn't especially interested. I've been carrying her upstairs when I go. She howls her head off the whole way, haha.  She does explore a wee bit when I set her down though. I don't think she will be exploring on her own any time soon.

Have you noticed how we are getting bombarded by Christmas drivel on the TV now that Halloween has passed? MY goodness, the commercials are relentless.

  1. I wear long socks in winter, even in the house. Your red and burgundy sound great to me.

Our old puss wasn’t into playing either. I would sometimes delay her feeding just a bit to keep her awake and somewhat active for a little longer.

  2. Those socks sound really warm. Doing hand work is the best thing to do on a crappy day! I hope you can get things worked out with the cat. I bought double of Lizzie's dry food which is a bit of a drive away for the same reason. It won't get her through winter, but at least for a bit.

  3. Those socks sound like what I could have used years ago.
Most of the stores are selling Christmas Decorations and it is not even Remembrance/Memorial Day yet.
    Stay Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.
