Running the roads

Friday was a magnificent day. It was warm and sunny, and felt like May.

My old friend of more than 40 years was up this way showing one of her beautiful dogs at the Champlain Dog Club spring show.  We spent the afternoon at the arena watching the coming and going.

By the end of that day my planter faciitis was screaming like mad. Standing on a cement floor the best part of the day will do that.
Saturday we had a hankering for some ice cream so we loaded the Princess into the car and took a drive up to Petawawa again. We had a look at the flooding on the Ottawa River at the municipal beach. My goodness, the debris floating along is something! We saw a dock, logs, five gallon water jug, life jacket, bottles, unknown stuff and a boat lodged into a log jam. Somebody will be missing the big stuff! It was a very rainy day so we didn't get for the planned walk with ice cream in hand. M. popped into the grocery store and bought a tub to bring home.
The forecast snow didn't materialize today, well, yet. We drove up the bush road as far as the old rail bed and went for a walk. There is a creek crossing a ways in. We walked as far as the old train bridge and had a look. The creek is high, but I wouldn't call it flood conditions. It comes out of Algonquin Park, but I'm not sure of the lake.
That old bush road is in much better shape than the road I live on right now. I don't want to write about the TRASH that litters the trail though. Who dumps plastic garbage bags???? Update Later:  I wish I was physically able to get into the ditches to clean up. Unfortunately it's about eight feet down and with standing water. I'd have a h**l of a time getting down and would need a hoist to get up again. I'll be taking my grabber and a bucket out to do along my road this afternoon.
The sawmill back of my place has been purchased and operations are about to start again. The new owner is moving some of his operation from another site to here. We already see some massively loaded trucks coming and going. There is no half load restriction on that part of the road. I hear heavy machinery in the morning again.

  1. Sorry about the noise. And the trash. Some people can be pigs.

    1. The garbage is a riot. Along the snowmobile trail is a mess of beer and pop cans. People really are pigs. I don't mind the noise. The mill was shut down for almost a year when the previous owner fell ill and then passed away. I kind of missed it.

  2. Algonquin is still pretty frozen. We checked out the boat launch on Turner's Rd. yesterday. The Bonnechere is still frozen over there, slushy black ice, but still ice covered. The water is creeping up over the road a bit before the bridge.
The garbage....time to get out the boots, gloves and bags and pick up our road, now that the snow banks are mostly gone. It begs the eternal question... why, why why do people litter the landscape?

    1. I just saw a post that Paugh Lk. Rd. Has a washout at km. 5. Maybe we will get out for a drive today in the sunshine. 😁

  3. You've got so much water. Our rain has stopped here and I hope yours has too by now. Did the creep overflow? The plantar fascitis is miserable. Have you tried freezing a half-litre bottle of cold water (don't overfill it, says the voice of experience!) and rolling your foot on it? And cutting a wedge out of the middle of soft foam rubber and putting it in your shoe? It helps a little (a very little -- the ice more.) I've been good since my custom orthotics but when I don't wear them for too long it comes back. Hang in.
