Cats

My friend adopted a rescue kitty just before Christmas. He was not a friendly outgoing fellow. He spent most of his time sleeping under the bathtub or behind the couch. He did, however, enjoy watching nature shows about birds.

About two weeks ago a bird came down the chimney into the wood burner. Her boyfriend opened the door to shoo the bird out and the cat bolted after it. It took off "never" to be seen again.

Her nephew, (who is her next door neighbour), was by a neighbouring farm today and guess who is living a happy life with their barn colony? Yes, the runaway! He has a good life there and seems to be content so apparently he's allowed to stay. We are much relieved that the saga of the white cat did not have a sad ending.

  1. Our local lady who rescues cats, rehomes some of them in colonies if they are not amenable to being housecats. She does have them neutered first and does continue to supply food.

    1. He is neutered, vaccinated and well. She will take the food over when she gets home.

  3. When I was a girl living at home, a handsome black cat appeared at our cottage one August. I fed him and he moved in, to my mother's somewhat caustic approval. When we returned to the city for the start of the school year, Christopher (Columbus, I had named him) came with us. A few weeks later he vanished, to my dismay and tears, as I recall. A short time later my mother visited a butcher's shop that she sometimes used and there, happy and sleek, was Christopher. He had found a better place to be.
Cats. They use us, even as we love them.

    1. Our friend was here for dinner today. He was telling us how happy the white cat is at this farm. I'm so happy he found HIS happy place.
